Annual Red Barn Yard Sale

Once again, it’s time for the Annual Red Barn Yard Sale.  It will be held May 5th and 6th at the Red Barn Annex.  Some of the offerings this year are garden items, Christmas decorations, household items, quilting/sewing fabric, tools and more.

If you are interested in renting a space ($10 for two days), call the Downtown Museum at 754-1058.

Want to donate to the cause?  We accept all donations (excluding clothing and electronics).  Bring your gently used items to the Red Barn Thursdays – Sundays between 10 – 4 before May 4th.

 

Calaveras County Airport – Then and Now – April Dinner Meeting

Come “soar” with us as we enjoy a meal catered by Lila & Sage Bakery and Catering in Murphys. They will be preparing a Spinich and Cheese Lasagna with Italian sausage, salad, freshly baked bread and for dessert – cupcakes! Our beverage team will also be on hand for your “in flight” entertainment.

Following dinner, Kathy Zancanella, Airport Manager, will share with us the interesting history of the Calaveras County Airport – it’s past, present and future

Book of the Month – Hot off the Press

Breweries of the Gold Country – This book features breweries all through the Gold Country, including Angels Camp, Mokelumne Hill and Sheep Ranch. This is printed as part of the Images of American Series, featuring lots of pictures as well as interesting information. Written by R. Scott Baxter and Kimberly J. Wooten, historical archaeologists, you won’t want to miss out on this great book. See this and more in our bookstore.

February Dinner Meeting

This is your opportunity to come and see the newly restored Hook and Ladder at the Red Barn Museum Annex and hear about the history and the restoration of this beautiful artifact. Our speakers this month will be Julia Costello, who will give a brief history of the Lampson family and blacksmith shops in Mokelumne Hill, followed by Thomas A. Blake, who will speak about the restoration process of this beautiful piece.
Our dinner will be catered by Bill Claudino and will feature pork osso bucco, salad, potatoes, vegetables and dessert. Of course, no dinner meeting would be complete without our beverage team on hand.

Looking for an interesting, unusual weekend outing?

Well…why not try your hand at a little bit of blacksmithing!

Now is your opportunity to learn more about one of the world’s oldest trades and to experience it first-hand with family, friends or neighbors. Monthly blacksmithing orientation workshops at the Red Barn smithy will begin January, 2012. Space is limited, and classes are already beginning to fill, so call the Historical Society Office at 754-1058 to indicate your interest.
Classes will be $20 per person for a four hour hands-on demonstration.

November Dinner Meeting & Raffle

Come join us for our dinner meeting this month!. Dinner will be catered by Chef Clyde Weddle and assisted by Bill Claudino, featuring
salad, boneless pork roast with caramelized onion/mushroom sauce, scalloped potatoes, vegetables, rolls and dessert. Coffee and refreshments will also be available. Cost is $17.50 per person.
Our guest speaker this month will be Craig Hadley, Director of the Angels Camp Museum, who will provide a humorous presentation entitled, “A South Carolinian Out of Water in Calaveras County”.
We will also be having a raffle of a number of wonderful items donated by area merchants, with proceeds benefitting the Calaveras Historical Society.
